Chambray 3 Ways

If I had to pick an item to wear every day, it would absolutely be the chambray shirt. I love that I can wear it so many ways! I happen to be wearing one as I write this post. My current outfit isn’t even on this board, so option #4:  It pairs nicely with light pink joggers!

Chambray is sometimes mistaken for denim. Technically, chambray is a lightweight plain-weave cotton fabric, while denim is a twill fabric and usually heavier than chambray. Now you can impress anyone who compliments your chambray style with a fun fact!

This piece is a wardrobe workhorse and amazing for travel with its universal appeal and versatility. I created a style board showing the chambray shirt three different ways.

Ladies first. Don’t worry gentlemen, I have one for you too. Please remember, these are affiliate links. This means that while the product is the same cost to you, I may make a small commission and it allows me to continue to provide this inspiration for free.

The chambray shirt featured on this board is from Anthropologie and is available in sizes XS – 3X. Click on the image above to go to my Allison Beauchamp store front with links to everything included on this style board. Or click on the image below for a shortcut to this shirt.

  1. The first outfit inspiration shows the chambray shirt over a dress.  In this case, a striped maxi, either open and unbuttoned, as an outer layer or tied up and knotted in front to break up the top and bottom.
  2. Dress it up with a skirt! I love the pop of pink with this light wash chambray. Complete the look with heels and a statement earring.
  3. As a third, but definitely not last option, I layered it with a grey blazer over denim. Keep it casual with a neutral flat, or swap it for one with pattern. If you like the layered look, but don’t like the fabric bulk under your outer layers– opt for a sleeveless option! I linked one below:

The beauty of the chambray shirt is it comes in many different washes, weights and styles. Here are a few other options to consider:

Now for the gentlemen:

The shirt I styled on this board is from L.L. Bean and comes is sizes S-XXL. Like the women’s style board above, this piece can be dressed up or down and layered in many different ways. Again, click the image above to find links to everything shown here.

For a direct link to the shirt, click on the image below:

  1. The first look shows the chambray shirt with grey chinos, layered with a navy blazer. Depending on the event, you have the option to add a tie or change the shoes to elevate the look a little more.
  2. Another option is layering over khaki shorts and patterned tee shirt. Comfortable yet put together!  A similar option could be paired with swim trunks at the beach or pool.
  3. Finally, pair the chambray shirt with olive green pants. This is a classic color combination that is especially fitting in the fall.

I found a few more options in different washes and styles:

How will you style your chambray?!?

Spring Family Photo Inspiration

Spring is on the way! The weather outside your window may or may not feel like spring, but for those who have a spring photo session planned, here are a few style boards to help you and your family look amazing!

If you see something you like, simply click on the image to go to my Allison Beauchamp Styling storefront. You will find thumbnail images of the products to bring you to the retailer to select the size and complete the purchase. By using these links, at no additional cost to you, I receive a small commission which allows me to continue to provide this style inspiration.

I want to start by saying that I create the style boards with several different family types in mind. These outfit combinations can be altered slightly to fit the members of your family. Are you wanting something more specific to your family or event? Check out the other style services here or contact me to learn more about the virtual styling options.

The first style board starts with a beautiful blue and white patterned dress for mom. I find it is best to start with one look and use it to coordinate the others. In this case it is the dress and denim jacket combo. Add the hat for a fun spring accessory.

From there, we keep dad (or brother, son, uncle etc.) simple and classic with khakis and a blue button down shirt. I added several spring photo options for kids. Babies and toddlers are cute and comfortable in a onesie or dress. For older kids, I like to add a bit more with fun shoes or accessories. I recommend not steering too far form their budding sense of style or personality. Just as you want to love what you are wearing; you want them to look and feel as comfortable as possible.

There are two options that can be mixed and matched depending on how many boys in your group or if you need a cooler weather option.  Blue is a great color on so many people; you will see it here in a striped short and classic pair of jeans. A cable sweater adds texture and style, and a bow tie option for the dapper dudes.

Finally, I LOVE a classic denim dress! Especially when it is paired with sparkly shoes ready to make the cute girl in this family feel special.

Spring photo palettes do not always need to be pastels. The next style board brings in green with a pop of leopard pattern.

Mom stays classic in denim and a white top with feminine details. The simplicity allows for statement jewelry – earrings or a chunky bracelet. The leopard flats bring in the pop of pattern. For dad, a darker wash in denim with a patterned button-down shirt and olive sweater.

My favorite item on the entire board is the green jumpsuit for the young girl in the family! Layer on the knit cardigan and have fun with the leopard sandal. Complete her look with a bit more pattern in hair accessories. Keep the boys classic with a chambray shirt and khakis for the older one and a neutral knit onesie for the baby. One could argue the showstopper on this board is the adorable leopard dress and metallic shoes for baby girl.

Finally, the next board features one of my signature combinations: navy, stripe and floral.

Just like the last board, mom is classic with a navy utility dress, however the addition of the floral scarf adds interest with layering and a pop of colorful pattern. Dad lightens it up with a beige coat for his top layer.

While the mom and dad options are neutral, the kids outfits are where most of the details are added. The older boy outfit starts with the a blue and white stripe polo paired with a pop of Kerry green pants.

Matching siblings can be very sweet, but alternatively, I usually like to take one pattern and use different articles of clothing. On this board, for a family with two girls – one girl can wear the small floral pattern all over in the dress with a metallic rose gold sandal. The other girl could pair the same pattern leggings with chambray on top. For the babies/toddlers, an adorable polka dot denim peplum outfit for the girl and striped navy knit outfit for the boy.

I hope these boards inspired you for upcoming spring photos or events. Here’s to sunshine and warmer temps!

Welcome!

I am so excited to welcome you to Allison Beauchamp Styling! Fashion and personal styling have always been passions of mine, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help others look and feel their best.

About Me

I’m Allison, but as my friends do – call me Alli! I live in Minneapolis, MN with my husband, three kids, and puggle Chloe.

As a working mom of three, I am well aware of the challenges family photos and special events can create. From choosing outfits, to budgeting, to coordinating – an upcoming event on the calendar can quickly turn from fun to dreaded. While planning my own family photo sessions I wished there was an easy way to shop for everyone so I could put my energy into creating memories. And, as my two-year old says, Ta-Da! That idea is how Allison Beauchamp Styling was born!

My Style Philosophy

I believe that personal style is something that should evolve over time. Your style should reflect your lifestyle, and include only things you love and feel comfortable in. What you wear for photos, special events or everyday activities should reflect your true, unique self, and make you feel amazing.

In my 20+ years of styling experience, I have learned that no two people have the same style needs, and each family member has their own personality as well. I have experience working with many different body types and budgets. Finding the perfect pieces that inspire and highlight who each of you are is my favorite part of working with others.
