I actually came across this pillow and loved the color combination, so I made that the color palette of this style board! The yellow dress is a fun color and has interesting details. Make sure to complete your look with shoes you love, in this case a neutral sandal or even a white tennis shoe would be amazing.

Spring is a great time to get senior pictures taken. I love what the photos represent! A celebration of how far you have come and the hard work that went into that. A memento of your style and interests as they are now. And a starting off place into the next chapter.

I wrote a blog post around this time last year (see it HERE) and I mention how your senior pictures are the perfect time to let your personality and style shine! For the last post I created three style boards representing inspiration for three different styles. This time, I curated two style boards for inspiration, one for women and one for men. This is just a starting off point, because it really should be personalized just for you. It is your opportunity to wear what YOU love and feel best in!

in this instance, I chose one look a bit more on the formal side. If you have read my blog posts in the past you know I love a navy suit. This is a great time to invest in one for your senior if you haven’t already. A nice navy suit can be used for these photos, family celebrations and job interviews. For the photos, add your personal style by your shirt and shoe choice.

Keep in mind, if you use layers, you can easily remove the jacket to change it up quickly. You will see I chose layers for the other looks as well for this same reason. For one, I selected chinos paired with a Henley tee. Add a light blue collared button down shirt and neutral suede shoe to complete the look.

The third outfit from this style board is your favorite pair of jeans with a white tee, slip-on shoe and outer layer. Again, this can be personalized to you. I chose an olive green bomber jacket, but it can be a flannel shirt, sport jersey etc.

Overall, it’s best to chose pieces that aren’t distracting and won’t take away from beautiful or handsome faces. Avoid logos, loud prints and overwhelming silhouettes.

I thought I would do the Spring Wedding Guest style inspiration in the format of splurge vs. save! I chose three different looks and found a dress with accessories in a budget version and another made up as investment pieces.

For this year, I was inspired by the adorable new arrivals at Janie & Jack! The quality is great for years of hand-me-downs and the style is classic and precious. I started with pieces made from a fabric that is associated with spring and warmer weather: seersucker. It is a thin, puckered, all cotton fabric that because of the way it is woven, tends to stay away from the body aiding in air circulation and doesn’t need pressing. The name comes from the Persian words meaning “milk and sugar” which refers to the rough and smooth textures of the stripes.

You may be ready for spring clothing and we are seeing it start to arrive in stores and online, but we just had a snow storm here in Minneapolis so I thought I would post one more Winter Family Photo Style Inspiration style board before heading into spring celebrations, spring wedding guest and spring family photo style inspiration.

I kept this one on the neutral side, with grey and blush being the primary colors. I thought it would be a beautiful soft palette against the white snow and February/March sunlight.

Depending on your climate you can add or remove layers as cold kids or even adults can make your photo session very challenging!

Starting with the beautiful pink hue of the women’s coat. Letting that be the statement, I paired it with a gray wash denim and a cream sweater. I then added a winter ankle boot to help navigate the snow yet keeping the look cohesive and stylish. I personally have these Sorel boots and love them!

For the men’s look I kept it light with the denim wash and paired it with a cream sweater. For the layering piece, I love the look of this vest; which is reversible! Again, I added shoes that would be appropriate for the location and weather.

For baby, I chose a white and gray patterned sweater with cozy pants and booties. For the older girls I went with cream, pink and gray pieces to add warmth and interest.

Starting with the look on the left side of the board, an easy outfit formula for a night out, is a great pair of dark denim, a statement blouse, and complete it with a pair of shoes that make you feel amazing!

The middle look is one of my personal favorites. I love a midi skirt in a fun color paired with a sweater. This cream sweater is new at J.Crew and I loved the v-neck detail for date night. It also comes in black and beige. I finished the look with a heel in a pop of pink!

Finally, the dress outfit is a floral print with a hint of a black base, which allows for a beautiful pairing with a fab leather (or faux leather) moto jacket and Chelsea boot. I love this piece for many reasons, but one of them is how it can be styled for every season.

My favorite are these floral pajamas! They actually have a very luxe look with several different patterns. I added the Sleeping Robe from Athleta in a pretty pink and a fun colorblock lounge wear look.

The maxi dress for mom comes in several colors, so if this blush pink isn’t for you, there are other colors, even within this palette to choose from. It is also available in straight and plus sizes. Most newborn sessions happen in studio or home, so you may decide to ditch the shoes, but wanted to give an option so I kept it casual and paired this dress with a slip on mule.

For the men’s look, I went with denim in a gray wash paired with the crewneck sweater in an amber hue. I love the slight pattern of the cream sweater dress on this style board. Complete the look with tights or leggings and blush boots.

With the boys looks, I pulled a few more colors from the color palette, keeping them simple and cozy so the focus is on the newest member of the family. Again, it may be more natural in socks, but I styled the looks with slip on and tennis shoes in muted colors.

One of the reasons I love this color palette so much is that it would be amazing for any baby! I chose the blue green color for the knotted gown, but you could do amber or even lean towards the dusty pink or gray.

I recently shared on Instagram a photo of our closet transformation with the Ikea PAX system and there was interest in a blog post with details. (do you follow me there yet? If not I would love for you to click over and hit follow: https://www.instagram.com/allisonbeauchampstyling/?hl=en) I am not an expert, but I did learn several things along the way, so if this helps even one person, I would be happy.

I knew when we moved into this house over three years ago that I would need to transform the primary closet. We are blessed with space, however the builder-grade one-wire rack all the way around was not the best use of it. I took the time to plan and save up for what would be a closet I LOVE and a much better use of space.

I started with the Ikea PAX planning tool, visit it here. I used it to plan out each wall within the closet.

It can take a bit of trial and error, to get the right combination to fit your closet dimensions. To put it simply, you start with the frames, which come in three different widths, two heights and two depths, and then personalize with accessories.

We did the 92″ height and the 22″ depth for all of the frames and used varied widths to maximize each wall space. We ended up with three of the 39″, two of the 29″ and two of 19″ frames. As with many retailers right now, Ikea is experiencing inventory challenges, so it took a couple trips to the store and one home delivery. One thing to note for in store, most of these items require the Ikea team to pick in the back and you pick it up when ready. Depending on how busy they are, this can be 30-60 min from when you check out. I suggest trying to have someone on the showroom floor ring you up, so they can begin gathering your items while you finish shopping.

Once we had the majority of the pieces we needed, we prepped the closet.

Our bedroom looked chaotic, but having one or two collapsible garment racks helped! This one is under $10! We quickly patched the holes and removed the baseboards where the wardrobe frames would be. They give instructions on installing both with and without the baseboards. I wanted to make sure the frames were as secure and snug as can be against the walls so we opted to remove them.

I would say one of the biggest challenges and a true test of your marriage, haha, is building the frames upright and within the small space. Unless you have VERY tall ceilings, this is the way to go to avoid damaging the ceiling. And the challenge gets harder as you fill the small space with other frames. You NEED two people to build these upright and within the space; don’t try it alone!

Once all the frames were built and in place we secured them to the wall and each other. Included were brackets, but not screws for securing them. Therefore, you will need to purchase screws and dry wall anchors, depending on the wall you are securing them to. They provide the hardware to secure the units to each other, but make sure you are using holes you don’t think you will use for any accessories like shelves or drawers.

You can see that we have a floor vent underneath one of the frames, so my husband installed a vent extender to be sure there was proper air flow.

Another pro to using the Ikea PAX planner is that they provide a product list, pictures and assembly overview to aid in the next part of adding in the personalized accessories.

It lists which holes along the sides to add the shelf or drawer to create the configuration you desire. I did change this a bit in the middle of the installation process as I chose the storage bins we were going to use and a bit of trial and error with our actual clothing. Another pro to this system, once you have the frames in place you are able to change it as your needs change.

I chose a variety of short hang, long hang, shelves, pull-out pant hangers, and pull-out accessory shelves and drawers. I based this off of both mine and my husband’s wardrobe needs. I thought the actual building of the drawers, and installing the various components was easy, just time consuming.

There are still a few pieces we are waiting for: an upper shelf above a clothing rod and pull-out accessory drawers. They should be in stock in a couple weeks, but for now it works!

One other thing I would suggest if you are wanting a more finished look, is covering the unused holes along the sides of the frames. This takes some time, but I enlisted my kids for this part. Ikea sells them, so it’s easy to add, and they can be removed if orwhen you want to change up the configuration. I took a close up below of the covered vs. uncovered holes.

The best part was putting the clothes back into the closet! I may add a part two of this blog post and show you how we organized and made use of this new space.

Another quick lesson learned, when doing a return, you are able to go on the website and “get in line” before you reach the store, so you can get a heads start and not have to wait so long once arrived.

I love how it turned out and sometimes I just wander in there to look at it! I still plan to shop with intention and edit my wardrobe to only things I love and wear as that makes getting dressed more enjoyable for me, but it is so nice to finally be using the space wisely. We are able to store more than just clothing now, like luggage and off season items.

Let’s start with the dress! I have this dress personally and I would say this flay lay photo does not do it justice. It’s a black ditsy floral print and looks amazing next to olive green. I would pair it with an ankle boot and keep the jewelry simple for family photos.

This JCrew olive green sweater pairs nicely with denim and is a great closet staple if you are looking to add something that will work for years.

For the girls look, you know I love a chambray dress for all ages, and winter lends itself to play with beautiful statement layers like this Sherpa lined stunner. The hood would be a fun prop for snowy photos. Complete the look with a pattern boot to add interest.

I added another statement coat to the board in navy that looks nice with cords and layered with another pop of green. I kept the youngest look neutral with a cable sweater and denim. Complete this look with another statement layer or a fun winter hat as shown.
